Many of my commissions have been ordered as anniversary, birthday or holiday gifts for a loved one. The most popular subjects have always been beach scenes of that special honeymoon or vacation location. These commissioned paintings bring back fond memories for the buyers and give pleasure for years to come. And, they generally go up in value rather than down, unlike most traditional gifts.


For Vacation Homes

A second popular reason for buyers to order a commission tropical painting from me is to enhance the ambiance of their vacation beach home. People find that a specific beach scene or seascape is the perfect addition to their retreat.


For New Home Interior Design

Other custom paintings are commissioned by new home buyers and interior designers who may want to provide single or multiple large statement paintings as the focal points of various rooms in new or remodeled homes."


How to Commission a Painting        

“First of all, this is a collaborative process. We will share ideas, discuss, and agree on the desired outcome – subject, composition, mood, size, colors, etc. Ideally, the client will provide good quality photographs of the desired location. Alternatively, I can search for and use my own reference photographs as a starting point. I will create up to three preparatory sketches from which to obtain client’s approval before beginning the commissioned artwork. We will discuss and share ideas until we have a composition that we both agree upon.

Commission pricing is based on the size and complexity of the painting. We will agree on a fair price before the commission begins. Generally, custom commission paintings are priced higher than already completed portfolio paintings because of the additional time and effort to conform to a specific outcome. Once we have an agreement, I require a deposit check to clear before beginning the painting. The painting should be completed in 3-4 weeks.

My paintings are created using high quality acrylic paints due to its quick drying capabilities. Most people cannot tell the difference between paintings done in oil or acrylic and both are high quality archival mediums. The balance of the total price is due upon completion of the painting and prior to shipping.  A photo of the completed piece will be sent at this time. Shipping costs will be added to the final payment due.

If the order is cancelled prior to the start of work, the deposit will be returned in full. If the commission is cancelled during or after completion of a custom work, 50% of the total agreed upon price will be returned. However, my intention is always to deliver a high-quality product that exceeds client expectations as you can see from my customer testimonials.


My Style

“I would describe my style as “representational.” I try to portray the scene accurately so that one feels a sense of the realism of actually being there but I also use a bit of impressionism to create an artistic painting.

I will do my best to capture the spirit of what you request but I ask that you allow some artistic license since this is not intended to be a copy of a photograph but an original artistic creation.”
